About Me

Cultivating a Culture of Inclusive Excellence
In a nutshell…
By trade, I’m a talent acquisition and Human Resources leader who has lived my life to demonstrate that obstacles are meant to be overcome.
But most importantly…
I’m a mama to amazing kiddos and Culture Curator who is passionate about helping companies create impact-focused cultures in the ever-changing world of work.
My story starts here…
I’ve always been a tough cookie…
As a middle child who is a preacher’s kid, I am, by many standards, certified crazy.
I’m convinced that my family often didn’t know what to do with me.
My cup of ambition has always runneth over.
That ambition coupled with the foundation my parents laid for me to work hard and love people hard, compelled me to dream big…and to do the work.
And that has yielded huge dividends for me.
As a teen, a stranger once told me “ You don’t have to be asleep to dream.”
From that point on, I committed to doing my dreaming with my eyes wide OPEN…
I’ve always had lofty goals and never abandoned my child-like naiveté that absolutely anything is possible.
Fast forward to several years after rocking that cute red and white romper as a kid and I’d venture to say that I’ve had more than my fair share of challenges.
However, I view challenges as seeds that are being planted for my success.
It is my temerity in the face of adversity that helped me go from a single mom on welfare living in the projects, to a keynote speaker for large companies, sharing the stage with Miss Universe, Miss USA, Star Jones, and Destiny Childs’ LaTavia Roberson.
Life was good…
And then…
the biggest challenge of all came knocking at my door in August of 2018 when I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer.
I was dumbfounded…
I’d positioned myself to make more money in my side hustle than I did in my well-paying corporate job…and I was thriving.
Cancer WAS NOT supposed to happen.
But the truth is adversity doesn’t fight fair.
After a hair shaving party to take back the power cancer tried to wield over my life, I got to work on building a brand that centered around hope and hard work.
One day before my cancer surgery in 2019, I launched the She Beats it podcast to chronicle my story of kicking cancer’s butt.
One year later, I’d amassed worldwide listeners as I battled the side effects of aggressive cancer treatment (the She Beats It podcast was retired in May of 2020).
Cancer helped me see things clearly…
Sitting in my hospital bed during a 15-day stay as I listened to machines beeping and watched IV’s pump medicine into my body, I realized that purpose pursues you even when you try to ignore it.
As tears streamed down my face, I realized that in the midst of the biggest obstacle I’d ever faced, opportunity was still in great supply.
So from my hospital bed in a cancer center, I recorded one of the most listened to episodes of the She Beats It podcast…who says cancer (or any challenge) has to win?
Today, I am cancer-free and rich in hope.
You can’t always control change…but you can change on purpose.
